WVU Mountaineer – Mary Roush

The WVU Mountaineer, Mary Roush, will be bringing mountaineer pride to the festival this year. Dates and times are listed on the program schedule and our Facebook page.

Mary Roush was named West Virginia University’s 68th Mountaineer Mascot on March 5th, 2022 at the WVU vs TCU Men’s Basketball Game

Roush is a native of Mason in Mason County, West Virginia. She is only the 3rd woman to serve as the Mountaineer and is the youngest student ever selected. She is pursuing an undergraduate degree in Public Relations with a minor in Sports Communications. On campus, Roush is a member of PRSSA (Public Relations Student Society of America), an intern for WVU Athletics Video, and a Reed College of Media student ambassador. It is Roush’s goal to inspire young and old mountaineers everywhere to believe in what the university and state stands for, whether it be in or out of the buckskins. Roush has an extreme passion and love for the state of West Virginia and cannot wait to show the world what it means to be a mountaineer.

Roush graduated from Wahama High School where she was very involved with her school and community. She was inducted into National Honor Society and Rho Kappa Honor Society. She also graduated in the top 5 of her class with the most community service hours as well. She was a member of the Wahama Lady Falcons Volleyball team while also volunteering as a statistician, announcer, and manager to the girls’ basketball team and softball team. Some of her favorite pastimes are doing anything that involves the outdoors such as hiking, golfing, skiing, and taking pictures along the way. Roush’s main goal is to travel to all 55 counties of West Virginia to see as much as the state as possible while also meeting as many Mountaineers as she can! She hopes to carry on the Mountaineer values and traditions like the ones before her and represent Mountaineer Nation, WVU, and the whole state of West Virginia with pride.
